Not to be confused with country style, this look takes an organic, environmental approach to design that places emphasis on natural materials and elements. Earthy style can be influenced by weather and climate, as well as the tones and textures of the outdoor landscape, from trees and lush pastures to clay and stone, even berries and flowers.

Contemporary Scandinavian design is a classic nod to earthy style, with architects and designers often making reference to the landscape and natural features of a region while harnessing these elements in their designs. This can involve using raw timber as cladding, and introducing rich, warm tones to cooler elements of stone and blackened oak.

The natural, textural qualities of linen make it an obvious choice for earthy style, with linen bedding and accessories imbuing a grounded luxury and sumptuous tactility to a nature-inspired scheme. A gentle, organic palette comprising stone hues, warm neutrals of flax and taupe, and rich browns and rusts is the perfect representation of a slower pace and living in harmony with the natural environment.
