Nordic Natural Style

Earthy and inviting, Nordic style takes inspiration from the region's rugged landscape. Textural, natural materials and a soothing, muted palette echo the outdoors, creating a seamless connection between cosy, grounding interiors and the surrounding environment.

The colour palette is simple and monochromatic, leaning heavily towards neutrals. Creamy, sandy hues are layered with soft greys to offer an elegant balance of coolness and warmth, while rich shades of caramel, toffee and chocolate, along with moody charcoal and black melange, add tonal depth and contrast to a light base.

Form and function are entwined for a look of modern simplicity that can be adapted to both contemporary design and classic, old-world interiors. Sumptuous comfort and a rich tactile appeal are key to Scandinavian design, inspired by the Nordic climate and a desire to create a safe haven for the long winters. Clean lines and clutter-free spaces further enhance this feeling of calm and sanctuary.

Copenhagen-based Norm Architects are quintessential Danish design masters, with a warm, pared-back aesthetic that is characteristic of Nordic style. By keeping the design, materials and palette simple, their spaces offer a feeling of tranquillity and retreat that mimics the soothing qualities of nature. Hardwood floors are softened with textural rugs in jute, sisal or wool, while pure linen throws, cushions and accessories offer luxurious accents in all seasons.

Achieve a similar look with our signature pure linen collection, available in a range of timeless hues that are made to layer effortlessly for relaxed, year-round style. Light, sandy Sable and Kali create the ideal foundation for rich, warming tones of Bere, Brun and Carmel, while the muted dark melange of Nox and Rok lend a sophisticated layer. Simplicity is at the centre of Nordic natural style, so keeping the palette minimal is key to achieving this tonal look.

The familiar colours and textures of the natural world that are elemental in Nordic design can be found in the work of Danish artist Oliver Gustav, whose approach to creating quiet yet dramatic spaces results in a look of modern antiquity that balances clean lines and rough surfaces, old and new. Similarly, the work of the Swedish interior design studio Perspective appears at ease in its wintry, rugged setting, evoking the stillness and raw beauty of the Nordic landscape.
