Bringing Nature Inside

Bringing Nature Inside

Creating a strong connection between your home’s indoor spaces and the outdoor world has many benefits, both aesthetic and practical. Inviting nature inside, whether through sunlight, leafy views or natural materials, can also be beneficial to your health and wellbeing, imbuing calm and clarity to your day-to-day routine and encouraging a restful night’s sleep.     Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Fog, Basix Stripe Euros in Tempest/Fog and Basix Stripe Cushion in Tempest/Fog. One of the most effective ways to create a cohesive relationship with the surrounding landscape is with glazing, which maximises views and natural light. Installing glass in a window or door, whether it be a large, dominating wall, a cleverly positioned skylight, or a subtle pigeonhole window in an unexpected place, can immediately create a feeling of openness in even the smallest of spaces.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Blanket in Sable and Flocca Linen Duvet in Fog. Not only is a lush outlook visually pleasing, but studies also show even brief exposure to natural views can have a restorative effect on mental fatigue. To connect your house and garden, our soft and sheer Basix Linen Curtains enable unobstructed views and allow natural light to filter through while still offering privacy. They’re also a perfect tool to soften window frames and interior walls.   Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Tempest, Crush Double Throw in Floss/Moro, Flocca Linen Euro in Fog and Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Armee. Natural, breathable pure linen bedding and accessories can help to balance glass windows and doors by softening sharp angles and smooth surfaces. Our richly textured Flocca Linen Blanket or Crush Linen Throw are adaptable pieces you’ll be reaching for many times throughout all seasons, adding a textural layer to your duvet or making a sumptuous addition to the back of your sofa.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Blanket in Fog. A nature-inspired colour palette can evoke the feeling of the outdoors by reflecting similar tones, from the verdant green of our Armee hue to the serene and oceanic Mare. Combine this with textural, natural materials such as clay, timber and pure linen, along with the air-purifying qualities of indoor plants, for a sensory-rich experience that can have a soothing effect through both sight and touch. With a few simple design ideas, you can create a restorative indoor oasis that feels seamlessly connected to nature.

Balance of Whites

Balance of Whites

Effortlessly fresh and adaptable, an all-white interior scheme offers the ideal backdrop to a calming sleep haven. However, while it provides the perfect foundation to build your dream bedscape, an all-white space can appear flat or sterile unless thoughtful layers of colour and texture are introduced.  Elevate a white bedroom by bringing in two to three accent hues, layering the most vibrant tone over a more subtle transition hue from the same colour family or in a complementary hue to balance out the contrast. This serene bedroom, featured in an elegant Brisbane residential project by CLO Studios, is a perfect example of how tonal layering can work beautifully from a base of white.     Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Ayrton, Flocca Flat Sheet and Pillowcases in Rosa, Basix Fitted Sheet in Floss and Flocca Linen Bedhead in Ayrton. CLO Studios has masterfully balanced Ayrton, our classic antique white hue, with accents of Armee, using Fog and Sable as gentle transition hues. In the second bedroom, Ayrton has been paired with a vibrant Rosa accent, while both shades are complemented by a fitted sheet in the soft pink of Floss.     Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet, pillowcases in Fog, Basix Linen Fitted Sheet in Fog, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet and Pillowcases in Ayrton, Basix linen Bedskirt in Sable and Crush Linen Throw in Armee. Adding textural elements to a predominantly white space can further imbue depth and cosiness, such as plush and high pile rugs, blankets and statement cushions. For a timeless look, keep to natural materials in neutral colours – think sandy, creamy and taupe rather than optic white –  and pieces that have a fleck rather than being flat, which will help pick up the light and shadows.   Timber lends warmth and texture, whether through a timber bed frame or a timber bedside table, which can be complemented by the tones chosen in your bedding. If you include darker timber pieces, it is even more important to focus on the accent blend in your bedding. Styled by Tess Thyregod for Inside Out Magazine, This property has achieved this with a combination of Argent, Nox, Floss and white base of Petra.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Petra, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Argent, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Nox and Floss and Floss/Moro Crush Throw (in side table). Find a calming and cohesive balance by picking up similar tones to the timber elsewhere in the room, such as with artwork or a feature chair, and by choosing warm-toned accessories when working with whites and pinks instead of cooler shades such as blue and green which may clash.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Petra, Flocca Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Petra, Ayrton and Argent, Crush Linen Throw in Argent and Flocca Linen Bedhead (short) in Petra. This HMCo pure linen bedscape achieves a harmonious balance by layering Ayrton with Argent accents while Petra works as a gentle transition hue. By using a transition colour, as well as focusing on a pared-back palette and rich textural interest, you can allow accent hues to elevate an all-white bedroom beautifully.

Coastal Style

Warm sand, cool grey stone, calm blue skies and dark, moody seas… The tones and textures that are characteristic of this popular style reflect the soothing beauty of the coast. With numerous interpretations to be explored, coastal style will always feature principal elements of colour and balance. Flinders Horizon by Mim Design I Architecture: BH Architects I Photography: Peter ClarkeOne of the most widely recognised coastal style schemes is a quintessential Hamptons look, where colour is applied liberally and collectively alongside whites and neutrals, perhaps as a feature wall or layered in soft furnishings. A contemporary coastal style, on the other hand, uses colour minimally in a singular hue or two as a subtle accent. Bilgola Residence by Walter Barda Design I Interior: Hugh-Jones Mackintosh I Photography: Prue Ruscoe Just as important as colour is a sense of balance. When styling a bed, for example, a Hamptons look features symmetry in its application of cushion placement – a standard pillow, European cushion and accent cushion on one side of the bed will be mirrored on the other. The same applies to a contemporary look, albeit more minimal, such as a stacked standard pillow offering both simplicity and balance. Urban Style

Urban style is influenced by cosmopolitan design as well as lifestyle, resulting in a fusion of modern, contemporary and industrial elements. While urban style is closely connected to architecture, it is also a representation of personality and how one goes about their day in the city, drawing on cafe culture, fashion, art and music to make each interpretation uniquely personal. Surround by Laminex Campaign I Creative direction: @ortolandesign I Set Design: @studioesteta I Styling: @becksimonstylist I Photography: @evegwilson Urban style could be a factory-turned-loft apartment that juxtaposes brick and exposed beams, melding bohemian and industrial by placing Persian rugs alongside a vinyl collection. It could be a sleek, minimal retreat with all the latest tech, where polished surfaces and vast glazing overlook a city skyline. Or it might be a renovated townhouse that marries heritage charm with contemporary finishes and the latest in designer furniture. Interior: @arentpkyestudio I Styling: @clairedelmar I Photography: @smartanson No matter which look matches your aesthetic, linen bedding has the ability to inject individual personality into any urban interior scheme through colour, styling, and textural warmth. Earthy Style

Not to be confused with country style, this look takes an organic, environmental approach to design that places emphasis on natural materials and elements. Earthy style can be influenced by weather and climate, as well as the tones and textures of the outdoor landscape, from trees and lush pastures to clay and stone, even berries and flowers. Contemporary Scandinavian design is a classic nod to earthy style, with architects and designers often making reference to the landscape and natural features of a region while harnessing these elements in their designs. This can involve using raw timber as cladding, and introducing rich, warm tones to cooler elements of stone and blackened oak. Mornington House by Studio Esteta I Photography: Sharyn Cairns I Published: The Local ProjectThe natural, textural qualities of linen make it an obvious choice for earthy style, with linen bedding and accessories imbuing a grounded luxury and sumptuous tactility to a nature-inspired scheme. A gentle, organic palette comprising stone hues, warm neutrals of flax and taupe, and rich browns and rusts is the perfect representation of a slower pace and living in harmony with the natural environment. Country Style

This timeless look draws from a variety of influences, and while there is no one-style-fits-all formula, inspiration generally comes from the natural and immediate environment. This is why we often see rustic timbers and highly textural materials within this interior scheme. Country style can be interpreted in many ways, including 'homestead style', which melds old-world charm with a sense of grandeur; the quaint, handmade appeal of 'cottage style'; and 'modern country', a sensitive pairing of antique and contemporary elements. Interior published in Haus Love I Photography: Sarah Sheilds The key to styling a country theme is the considered layering of objects, homewares and furniture, incorporating vintage finds with rustic pieces in a variety of finishes such as glass, timber and metals. In addition, fabric and soft furnishings play an important role in balancing warmth and texture with cool, smooth surfaces. The Repose Boutique Accommodation in Dubbo I Photography Abbie Melle I HMCo linen purchased through @the_reposeNo matter which interpretation you prefer, one of the most beautifully suited materials in any country style scheme is linen. With a looser weave than most other fabrics, this natural fibre can be applied everywhere from bedding to furniture. For an effortlessly elegant bedscape, take a tonal approach to layering and focus on textural variety such as a throw or blanket in a highly tactile weave, or include a melange weave for added depth and interest. Modern Femininity

A nod to cottage style, which marries practicality and comfort with charming accent pieces, modern femininity is all about making a space feel both cosy and elegant. Rather than having one strong theme in mind, for example ‘shabby chic’ or ‘Hamptons coastal’,  the focus is on soothing, muted hues and understated details that effortlessly elevate and adapt to any interior scheme, leaving a space to feel softer and more beautiful from age and use.   Featuring: Flocca Body Cushion on Floss and Crush Linen Throw in Ayrton Melange.   Key to this look is our signature Flocca range, beloved for its exquisitely hand-tufted edges which imbue each piece, whether it be a cushion, blanket or sheet sheets, with a luxurious, handcrafted quality. This subtle detail works wonderfully in many styles, including contemporary interior design, where it brings softness and femininity to clean lines and pared-back spaces, as well as a country aesthetic, where the look is perfectly at home alongside floral patterns and timber accents.      Featuring: Kristine Linen Flat Sheet in Ayrton, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Brun and Flocca Linen European in Ayrton.   For a touch of old-world romance, look to the gathered flange and hand-tufted edges of our Kristine range, which can appear beautifully rustic when featured in antique white Ayrton in a country-style bedroom paired with Carmel, our sun-bleached caramel hue or add inviting warmth to a modern, minimal bedroom setting accent pieces such as Crush Merino blanket in Oro.    Featuring: Kristine Linen European in Ayrton and Crush Merino Blanket in Oro.   The subtle, hand-tufted details and soft, feminine colours of our pure linen bedding are designed to be layered effortlessly with pieces from the same range or can be used to soften bolder patterns and motifs. Fresh whites such as Ayrton can be paired with sandy Sable, earthy Floss or the warm stone of Petra, creating a soothing and versatile backdrop to be personalised with cushions and throws.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Duvet in Floss and Flocca Linen Flat sheet in Petra.   A thoughtful juxtaposition of soft touches and statement-making pieces can be carried through to furnishings and decor, where the addition of a vintage lampshade or delicate floral arrangement can enhance feminine shapes and tones, while heavier timber furniture balanced with cool marble and metal accents will anchor the space and create a look that is both contemporary and timeless.

A Masterclass in Pillows

A Masterclass in Pillows

Pillows and cushions are a simple and versatile way to elevate your bedroom or refresh your space with a new look, with many variations to mix, match and layer. Here, our stylist shares some expert tips and tricks to create an inviting bedscape that exudes elegance and comfort.     Standard Pillows and Cushions From classic pillows to bolsters and scatter cushions, there are plenty of options available when it comes to styling these versatile bedroom accessories. Here are a few of our go-to ideas for achieving a timeless look that can be easily adapted to suit your interior design scheme.       The king of relaxed bed styling: The body cushion     Featuring: Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Petra, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Sable and Flocca Linen Body Cushion in Floss. Position 1-2 standard pillows upright rather than laying them flat, which will likely result in your pillows and body cushion sitting at the same height and appearing odd from your bed’s side profile. Your two upright pillows will frame your body cushion as they are a fraction taller, and will work to best effect if chosen in a contrasting colour.      The classic combo: Flocca Linen Cushion (50 x 50cm) & Basix Stripe Cushion   Featuring: Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Russo, Basix Stripe Cushion on Brun/Sable and Flocca Linen Cushion in Brun. This classic look is perfectly proportioned and works well with standard pillows, both upright or flat. Sit your 50 x 50cm cushion just off-centre to one side and your 40 x 60cm cushion in the centre, overlapping the front of the other by approximately half. You could also consider swapping the 40 x 60cm cushion for a bolster cushion or the 50 x 50cm for a Euro for that extra wow factor – the same styling applies.     Two’s company: A matching pair    Featuring: Flocca Linen Pillowcase (back) in Carmel, Basix Linen Pillowcases in Petra and Basix Bolster Cushion in Brun/Sable. This look features two of the same cushions symmetrically positioned at the front of your pillows, creating a timeless and cohesive look. While this style can work with flat pillows, the look will have the best impact when created with standard pillows that are positioned upright. Try 50 x 50cm sizing for a classic aesthetic or a bolster or striped 40 x 60cm cushion for a more personalised pairing.       Arranging with Euros Traditionally, European pillows, or Euros, are positioned at the back followed by standard pillows at the front. Large and decorative, they make an elegant addition to any bedroom as well as offering comfort and support. Here are some handy tips on how they can be used to effortlessly elevate your look.   Try bringing your Euros to the front and standard pillows to the back. This will help give your bed a volumising lift without loading up with scatter cushions. Be sure to have a nice amount of standard pillows showing at each end of the bed to frame your Euros and create symmetry. You can also add a body cushion for a further layer of texture and colour.    Featuring: Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Mare, Flocca European Pillowcases in Argent and Flocca Linen Body Cushion in Floss.     Introduce scatter cushions. Your Euros will look best at the back when including a cushion taller than, or propped up higher than, your standard pillows. In the instance where you have shorter cushions such as a 40 x 60cm or a bolster, you may want to move your Euros in front of your standard-sized pillows to avoid a waterfall effect (tall to short pillows) which can make your whole bed appear as though it’s sloping down.    Featuring: Flocca European Linen Pillowcases in Tempest, Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Tempest and Flocca Linen Cushion in Bere.     Go for a grand, traditional look with Euros placed at the back. This works particularly well on a king bed. Two to three is the optimum number, with king standard pillows advised and taller cushion clusters recommended to balance the length. Alternatively, positioning king standard pillows at the back and two Euros at the front will add elegance and height.   Featuring: Flocca European Linen Pillowcases in Russo and Flocca Linen Pillowcases in Rosa.   For more inspiration on how to style your pure linen bedding, and to explore inviting colour combinations for your bedroom and living spaces,  visit Shop Our Style.
